Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide reliable and practical information for hedge fund operations personnel through industry updates, articles, educational summits, email distribution, useful weblinks, industry directories, and much more. In addition, this association will provide an excellent forum to exchange ideas, present recommendations, generate ideas for advancing the industry, share best practices, improve job performance, and provide networking opportunities for our members to interact on a regular basis. This association will also provide practical strategies for developing, implementing and executing a profitable hedge fund.

About the Board of Directors

Marc Abel, CFO and COO, Dabroes Management LP

Mr. Abel is the CFO and COO at Dabroes Management LP (“Dabroes”). Dabroes is an European Long/Short hedge fund currently managing assets of $500 million. He is responsible for overseeing all financial, operational and investment relationships. He was one of the original members of Dabroes when the fund started operations in October of 2008. Previously, Marc was the CFO for Stonebrook Fund Management LLC (“Stonebrook”) a US Long/Short hedge fund that managed in excess of $1.5 billion at its peak. He was one of the original members of Stonebrook as well. Previously, Marc was a tax compliance manager at Ernst and Young in their financial services industry including giving various seminars in the taxation for hedge fund arena. In addition he performed audit and tax services for numerous financial services clients while working at Rothstein, Kass & Company, P.C. In total, Marc has had ten plus years in public accounting service. Marc is a CPA and received his undergraduate business degree at Washington University and his masters in taxation from Seton Hall University.

Daniel Federmann, CPA, CFA, Managing Director, Chief Financial Officer, Protégé Partners, LLC

Dan Federmann, CPA, CFA is a Managing Director & CFO at Protégé Partners, LLC. Dan co-heads the Operational Due Diligence Team and oversees the 10 person Operations / Accounting team. Prior to joining Protégé, Dan was a Senior Vice President and Treasurer of Lazard Asset Management’s Alternative Investment Business, where he oversaw the accounting and administration of both Lazard’s internal hedge funds and its fund of funds business. Before joining Lazard, Dan spent six years at PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP, where he focused on audit and consulting engagements for hedge funds and other investment vehicles. Dan received a B.S. in Accounting from Ithaca College in 1992 and is a Certified Public Accountant and a CFA charter holder.

Protégé Partners is a $3 billion asset management firm that was founded in 2002. The firm now manages two hybrid funds of hedge funds focused on identifying smaller hedge fund managers and a direct hedge fund. Both fund of hedge funds invest uniquely on an “arms length” and “seed” basis; Protégé Partners targets smaller, specialized managers, while Protégé Opportunistic invests with smaller, fundamental hedge funds with global, flexible mandates.

Duncan Huyler Chief Financial Officer, 360 Global Capital, LLC

Duncan has held the position of Chief Financial Officer at 360 Global Capital, LLC since February 2008. He is responsible for all back office and support functions including portfolio & partnership accounting, compliance, administration, human resources and technology. Prior to joining 360 Global Capital, Duncan was the CFO for Thesis Capital Management,, LLC from April 2005 to February 2008 and Vice President, Operations for Media Sciences International, Inc. (NASDAQ:MSII) from 1999 to 2005. Media Sciences is a manufacturer of supplies for digital workgroup color printers. While there he was a member of the ASTM F05 committee on business imaging products and authored ASTM F2406-04.

Duncan's previous professional experience includes Cadapult Graphic Systems: Director, Technical Services from 1993 to 1999, Lord & Taylor: Director, Advertising Systems from 1988 to 1993, The May Department Stores Company: Senior Financial Analyst from1987 to 1988 and the United States Army from 1983 to 1987 where he attained the rank of Captain, Corps of Engineers.

Currently Duncan is a member of the HFA, the HFBOA, the Regulatory Compliance Association and is a Cornell alumni volunteer. Additionally, he was a founding member of the Children's Cancer Research Fund of New York Medical College. Duncan received an M.B.A. from the University of Louisville, and a B.S. from Cornell University. He resides in Marlboro, New York with his wife and two sons.

Matthew Jenal, Chief Financial Officer, Cadogan Management

Mr. Jenal is responsible for all financial, administrative, regulatory and compliance matters at Cadogan Management. With over 20 years of financial management experience, he oversees all performance and financial reporting to clients and senior management. Prior to joining Cadogan, he was the Chief Financial Officer of T.C. Management in New York, which managed $250 million in hedge-fund capital. Before that, Mr. Jenal was Controller and Financial/Operations Principal at Sussex Asset Management, an offshore fund operator, and securities broker/dealer. Mr. Jenal also spent ten years in various financial management positions at Young & Rubicam Advertising in New York.

Mr. Jenal received a BS with honors in Accounting with a minor in Computer Science from Oswego College, and an MBA in Finance with distinction from Pace University.

Michelle Kline, COO & CCO, Genesee Investments, LLC

Michelle Kline is a principal of Genesee Investments LLC (“Genesee”), a Registered Investment Adviser located in Bellevue, Washington. Genesee provides investment management services to affiliated and non-affiliated private investment funds and advisory accounts applying fund of hedge fund strategies. Genesee launched its first fund of funds in 1983, making it one of the oldest fund of funds managers in the country.

Ms. Kline, a CPA licensed in the State of Washington, has been with Genesee since 1990 and oversees all operational, structural, regulatory, compliance, tax and accounting aspects of Genesee and the Genesee Funds. Prior to joining Genesee, Ms. Kline was a senior audit manager with a national CPA firm and focused primarily on audits of publicly traded companies, public securities offering and other SEC filings. In addition to membership in a number of professional organizations, Ms. Kline is an active community volunteer serving on several boards and commissions in the human services and education areas. She is currently serving as chair of the board of trustees of the French American School of Puget Sound.

Kurt D. Koeplin, Chief Financial Officer/Chief Operating Officer, Rail-Splitter Capital Management, LLC

Kurt Koeplin serves as the Chief Financial and Chief Operating Officer of Rail-Splitter Capital Management. Prior to joining the company, he was the Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer of Mansur Capital Corporation where his duties included the assessment of the financial controls, back office operations and portfolio pricing of the underlying hedge funds included in its fund of hedge fund products. Mr. Koeplin started his career at in the tax department of KPMG, LLP consulting with closely-held corporations, and subsequently founded his own certified public accounting firm. Kurt received a BA in Accounting from Michigan State University and earned a Masters of Science in Taxation from DePaul University.

Eric S. Lazear, Head of Operational Due Diligence, Frey Quantitative Strategies

Eric S. Lazear is Head of Operational Due Diligence for Frey Quantitative Strategies, which is a global fund of funds founded by former Renaissance Technologies managing director Dr Robert J Frey. FQS takes a scientific approach to hedge fund investing, combining quantitative and qualitative investment techniques.

Prior to joining FQS, Eric S. Lazear was a Director of Operational Risk Due Diligence for Duff and Phelps, an independent provider of financial advisory and investment banking services where he and his team provided independent third party assessments of hedge fund manager’s operating policies and procedures to Pension Plans, Endowments, Family Offices and Fund of Hedge Funds, as well as any investor allocating to alternatives. In his role, he assessed the operational risks associated with their alternative investments and provides solutions to mitigate those risks. He was responsible for assessing the operational and business risk of hedge fund managers globally and overseeing all operational risk reviews for an array of hedge fund strategies worldwide.

Prior to Duff and Phelps, Eric S. Lazear was Head of Operational Due Diligence for FIM, responsible for assessing the operational and business risk of hedge fund managers globally. Prior to FIM, Eric was Head of Operational Risk with IAM (International Asset Management) in a similar role. Eric joined IAM from JPMorgan Chase where he was AVP within the J.P. Morgan Performance Measurement, Analytics & Consulting Group between 1998 and 2005, specialising in performance analytics and manager searches.

He is a frequent speaker at conferences around the world on various topics regarding operational risk, and he maintains an extensive network within the hedge fund community to further advance the industry’s knowledge of operational risk. He is a member of the Board of Directors for the Hedge Fund Business Operations Association.

Eric holds a BBA from Hofstra University (1992), and an MBA from Baruch College (2001).

George Roeck, Chief Operating Officer, Chief Financial Officer, Charter Bridge Capital Management, L.P.

Mr. Roeck is the Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Charter Bridge Capital Management, L.P. Mr. Roeck joined Charter Bridge from Agamas Capital Management, LP, a multi-strategy hedge fund where he served as a Managing Director, Chief Financial Officer and Chief Compliance Officer.

Mr. Roeck has over 20 years of experience with investment management concerns including over 10 years of direct CFO experience. In addition to Agamas, Mr. Roeck has served as CFO for GSC Partners, Greenbridge Group and the Bank of New York Hamilton Funds complex. On the servicing side, Mr. Roeck spent 11 years at Arthur Andersen in their Capital Markets, Banking and Real Estate groups and was a Vice President at BNY Fund Servicing.

A Certified Public Accountant, Mr. Roeck earned a BS in Economics from Wagner College, an MBA from St. Johns University and a JD from Touro College School of Law.
